On Earth Day, we organised a walk through Green Square to observe civic environmental practices happening within the precinct.

We gathered at Joynton Avenue Creative Centre.

We admired some colourful verges.

We thought about water histories at Woolwash park. Woolwash Park Pond is the only remnant of this landscape which connected to a vast aquifer that still runs below Green Square. In the 1800s industries such as wool washing and tanning took advantage of the clean water from the aquifer. Woolwash Park Pond is an important part of the innovative water management and irrigation system at Victoria Park, Zetland. Because the pond is used for irrigation, fish and aquatic plants are banned from the pond.

We pointed out the combinations of designed landscapes with guerrilla gardens and ecological memories.

We chatted about public art, such as Cloud Nation, by Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro, located in the library.

We soaked up the sunset wandering the connected verges of Princess Avenue.
