Since our 2018 project documenting environmental stewardship practices in the gardeners of Haberfield, we have volunteered as judges of the Haberfield Association’s Garden Competition. This year we were looking at the category ‘Whole Gardens’. Presentation night was 22nd Monday, 2024 at the local library. Judges showcased the stunning entries to share the resilience, generosity and innovation of gardeners. Another category were ‘I’m especially proud of my…’ which let gardeners nominate special features such as enormous elephant ears and a garden path made from reused red bricks. And there was a category for professional gardens which meant we could all learn from the experts!

For the whole garden category, we were looking for delight and joy in the presentation, as well as how all elements of the garden worked together with the house.

Essentially, everyone who gardens is a winner!
